Gameplay Rules

These rules apply to all leagues, at all levels:

1) Scheduled matches consist of three games. All three games count towards team’s record

2) Rally scoring – Games played to 25 points, win by 2. Cap at 30.

3)  All leagues may set a serve.

4) You may NOT block or attack a serve.

5) Let serve - a served ball that hits the net and goes over, is playable.

6) A ball landing on a boundary line is IN.

7) Foot dig is legal. Foot must be on the ground when in contact with the ball to be legal, no kicking allowed.

8) A ball being hit to your opponent’s side must be inside the posts, but may not touch the posts.

* Concerning tree interference: The volleyball is playable if a player was already following and is able to get the volleyball back into play.

9) Sex rule: all coed teams (except quads) must have the volleyball touched by a female on each possession. - If a team has 2 or 3 touches from only men on one possession, the opposing team is awarded possession and a point.

10) A double hit IS ALLOWED only when returning a serve or a hard driven hit.

11) A PLAYER MAY NOT CONTACT THE NET WHILE THE BALL IS IN PLAY.

12) At NO time can a player reach over the net to intercept a pass or a set.

13) No center line foul.  YOU CANNOT, IN ANY WAY, INTERFERE WITH PLAY.

* Reminder you may not touch the net.

14) Open roster – Subbing player may come from same division or lower on that night.

                - Any player may play in a different division on other nights.

15) - Whatever league you are in (6’s or quads), you need to follow those rules.

- Ex: if you are in any 6’s league and you’re playing with 4 people, you must rotate - your server is the back row player and may not jump in front of the 10ft area.

16) (COED ONLY) - You may have more girls than guys playing, but no more than 3 guys on the court at one time.

17) If a team begins a game with less than 6 players and a 5th or 6th player arrives, they may come into the middle back at next rotation.

16) The team winning the volley has the option of serve or side for 1st and 3rd game.

17) No type of spiked shoe is allowed.

18) In the event of a rain-out once games have begun, all games played to 13 points or more and ahead by two will count as a complete game.

19) Except as herein stated, USAV rules shall govern play.

Additional Quads Rules

1) All play is live (anyone can hit in the front row)

2) No sex rule – A girl does not need to touch the ball during possession

3) You do not need to rotate, but you must have a serving order that you follow
